Lairai Temple-Shirgao

Goa is one of the smallest state in India but it has many tourist spots such as temples beaches,churches etc. In that one of the famous tourist temple is a Shree Lairai temple which is situated at Shirgao. It is one of the oldest and most famous Devasthan in Goa. The temple is unique in North Goa.
        The Devi Lairai is famous all over Goa. Every year thousand of devotees attend annual jatra of Devi to witness the walking of 'Dhond' through sacred fire called 'Homakund'.
         I share my past experience here,once I went with my family to visit the Devi Lairai Jatra, as my uncle is a Dhond of Devi Lairai. When I reached there at night, I saw a place is fully crowded with the people, and lot many shops. The temple is fully decorated with a lights and was looking very beautiful and was attracts people there. At night 12.00 priest light the fire to Homakund and all the Dhonds of Devi Lairai walk through sacred fire with bare feet. I was scared that how they can walk through the fire with bare feet without causing any injury to their feet.
       Lastly we went in the hotel which was there situated and had a hot pokodas along with the tea with my family. It was a very good experience for me and would like to suggest every one that every person should visit the place during Jatra of Devi Lairai and should had a good experience being present there.
